Work From Home Jobs With No Experience

Online jobs are becoming more popular and in demand nowadays because of their convenience. Just imagine earning cash without stepping out of the comforts of your home. With the pandemic being a major threat to anyone across the globe, working from home is the best option to keep one safe. By working remotely, you can tick an item off your worry list.

In your search for an online job, you may find some ads saying that you can make hundreds or thousands of dollars by working from home for a few hours a day with little to no experience. That might seem too good to be true, but the truth is it’s possible.

Then again, this doesn’t mean that you can land your ideal online job overnight. Apart from that, there is no such thing as a one-size-fits-all formula to guarantee that you’ll earn more in an online setting than in a 9 to 5 office job.

Yes, you can land a home-based job without experience, but you have to make up for your lack of grit, tenacity, learning aptitude, and trainability. Apart from that, it’s also important that you know where to look for job opportunities and tell fraudulent and legitimate jobs apart.

How Do You Tell If An Online Job Is Legitimate Or Too Good To Be True

While employees encounter difficulties like having fixed schedules or going to the office at a specific time, freelancers face work challenges, too. The remote setting is the only thing that sets these two workplace environments apart.

There are thousands of work-from-home opportunities. Then again, filtering the real ones that could pay you a livable wage in return for your hard work is like finding a needle in a haystack. Some employers may pretend to be legitimate headhunters but would end up conning you or paying you below the minimum. So, to help you steer clear of these pseudo-employers, here are some tips to guide you in telling if an online job is legitimate.

  • Finding an online job where you do not have to do much to get paid is as good as getting scammed.

  • Avoid any job application requiring you to pay upfront for supplies, software programs,  or any pre-employment qualifying fees. Remember, you’re applying to land a job and get paid. You don’t need to pay a legitimate employer to get hired.

  • Prepaying for inventories as an independent business owner or distributor for a larger company is a red flag. It could be an illegal pyramid scheme or a scam.

  • Performing short tasks or micro jobs, content mill writing, or answering online surveys are some of the online jobs considered legitimate, but they do not pay that much. However, depending on your situation, those jobs could be the right choice, especially if you need work that requires little time commitment.

Job Roles To Consider If You Have Little To No Experience

Employers post their job vacancies at reputable freelance online platforms, where many freelancers go. The ratio behind this is simple —  this fills these vacant positions quicker and easier. Some legitimate platforms even verify employers and hold some funds in escrow to ensure that those hired by a legitimate contract get paid accordingly.

Then again, even with this setup, you must still exercise due diligence to protect your interest as a freelance online worker. So, the story’s moral is to check vacancies in legitimate platforms like Freelancer, Upwork, Fiverr, Thumbtack, and more. By applying on these platforms, you can ensure that you’ll get a legitimate job offer from a legitimate employer. Ideally, these platforms make your job hunt easier because they already filter out those who pay, those who do not, or those who are yet to do so.

With that, here are some roles to look for if you have little to no qualifications:

Customer Service Representative

A customer service representative’s role is to assist company customers through phone, chat, or email. Usually, the queries are about the company’s products or services. While this may seem like an easy task to many, they offer little growth potential. Aside from that, you might even have a strict schedule to follow. It is best to inquire about advancement opportunities and flexible working hours before applying and accepting such job offers.

On a positive note, this job role is excellent for freelancers who enjoy talking to others and providing solutions to customers’ concerns. You need to be empathetic, solution-oriented, and quick-witted to be in this job. You see, these are attributes that one can have even without prior experience. The company you’ll work for can provide the proper training to use their CRM and other CS-related tools. So, take time to learn from these.

To set proper expectations, you must remember that this job requires you to call or receive customer calls. With that said, you must have a quiet background or a designated workstation free from any interruption.

Data Entry Clerk

A data entry clerk takes information from a printed document, spreadsheet, or order form. After that, they must collate them digitally in a spreadsheet, computer program, database, or source. Depending on the job requirements, you can be tasked to verify the information and check errors.

Many companies hire data entry clerks only with a high school diploma for full-time, part-time, or freelance positions. Data entry clerk is a typical work-from-home job, and it often does not need to be done during a specific working hour. With that, it’s perfect for those looking for flexibility in their work schedule.

Administrative, Executive, or Virtual Assistant

Administrative assistants are also called virtual assistants, especially when the job is online. Some tasks include responding to emails and messages, scheduling meetings, maintaining databases, filing documents, preparing memos, and performing other clerical duties that an organization requires.

Executive assistants are also administrative assistants, but they work for one or more people (usually executives) within a company. Their task is to organize the said executive’s calendar, such as planning their travel, taking minutes on their behalf at meetings, doing research, and more. This role is perfect for highly organized individuals who have strong problem-solving skills, work well with little direction, and are looking for flexible working hours.

While many administrative assistant roles are mostly entry-level and accept high school diplomas, executive assistant positions may require more work experience and may prefer those with a college degree.

Writer

Writers curate the content they read online and offline. You may apply for such a role if you love to write and keep your mind busy. However, there are many types of writers, and you need to know which writer category you belong to — medical, technical, content, or copywriter.

  • Medical and Technical Writer – Medical and technical writers take complex scientific and technical information and break it into understandable materials for laypeople. Medical and technical writers often need a bachelor’s degree in Communications, English, or Journalism because they may need to demonstrate expert and high-level knowledge in the subject matter they want to write about.

  • Copywriter – Copywriters create shorter written content to help sell an idea, service, product, or brand. They may also write the text for websites, social media posts, product packages, or anything related to sales and marketing tools, which may require a bachelor’s degree in communications, writing, or marketing.

  • Content Writer – A content writer aims to educate, inform, or increase a brand’s awareness and drive traffic to a company’s website by creating longer-form text, such as articles based on interviews, expertise, and other primary sources. Such a role can be arranged through freelancing or whole or part-time positions.

How To Get An Online Job Without (Relevant) Experience

Now that you have read the tips on differentiating legitimate and possible fraudulent jobs and know the possible positions you could apply for, it’s time to learn how to land an online job. Is it possible to get employed even without relevant work experience? Here are some tips to get you started.

  • Be clear on the skills you need for the job you want. Know what employers are looking for by reading their job ads thoroughly and identifying the skills and experiences they want their applicants to have before figuring out how to sell yourself for a particular role.

  • Know what your transferable skills are and highlight them in your job hunt. Transferable skills are skills you have used in one situation that can be used in a role that does not seem directly related. An example of this is when you are a writer for a school paper. This skill is something that could be translated into a writing job. You can discuss this experience and role in your cover letter, resume, and, most significantly, during the interview process.

  • Knowing and setting your career goals for a successful professional life. Whether you have short-term, mid-term, or long-term goals, knowing your vision would help you know what line of work you should be looking for. This will help you understand your skills, strengths, and passion.

  • Join an online class and earn a certificate. If you need to gain the skills the job you want requires, there is always time to learn them. You can find free or low-cost options to help you learn the skills you need online or through an accredited university.

  • Show employers that you can be a great online employee/worker. Employers want to know that the online workers they want to hire can do their tasks independently despite not being in the office. It is best to emphasize your independence, problem-solving, time management, and organizational skills throughout the hiring process.

With all the information in this article, we hope you will give work-from-home jobs a chance despite having yet to gain experience. Who knows, it might just give you what you want in a career or life.
